Russia market entry checklist for Chinese manufacturers

Start with one product. Organize specifications, target buyers, channel assumptions, applicable entry questions and responsibilities before committing to a Russia market launch. Use the preparation sheet to identify what needs verification.

Define the product scope for the first assessment

Choose products with clear documentation and a supply arrangement the factory can explain. There is no need to present every product line in the first discussion. State the model, application, key parameters, differences from existing models and confirmed supply conditions. Keep photographs, drawings, packaging information and samples on the same version. For engines, bearings or equipment, identify the relevant application and operating conditions. For decorative materials, identify size, finish, colour and batch characteristics so later inquiries and sample discussions refer to the same product.

Identify the buyer and the purchasing roles

Distinguish end-user businesses, procurement wholesalers, dealers and retail consumers. Describe the industry, intended region and people involved in technical selection and commercial approval. A large market is not a buyer definition, and a broad demand estimate does not replace checking real organizations. Existing inquiries, exhibition conversations or customer feedback can inform a hypothesis, provided their source and timing are recorded. Unconfirmed interest must not be presented as a purchasing order or a validated distribution channel.

Turn the route to market into a testable question

For marketplace retail, direct B2B and dealer cooperation, examine product presentation, buyer discovery, supply scope and service ownership separately. The first task might be qualifying buyers, checking Russian materials or discussing samples. It does not have to be a complete sales network. Define an output that can be reviewed: documented shortlist criteria, a product-information gap sheet or a meeting record. Use these findings to decide the next stage instead of treating website visits as evidence of purchase demand.

List entry questions before deciding requirements

Collect the intended use, technical documents, existing test or certification records, and proposed import and sales arrangement for review by the appropriate specialists. Different products and transactions cannot share an assumed certification checklist. Do not describe every product as requiring the same EAC document. Company arrangements, banking, product records, logistics and customs may interact, so identify who checks each question. Where documentation is incomplete, record the gap rather than treating every formality as resolved in a quotation.

Check supply conditions for one representative scenario

Choose a sample shipment, trial order or volume supply scenario and confirm the quantity, packaging, dispatch point, delivery location, document handover and service contact. Separate existing quotations from items still requiring an estimate, keeping their conditions and validity. Do not promise margins calculated from unverified transport costs, payment arrangements or resale prices. This stage should give the factory and local team a common view of confirmed conditions and questions that still need checking with the actual partners.

Assign an owner and a record for each task

The factory confirms specifications, supply capacity, prices and the service it can commit to. Agree the scope of local communication, customer follow-up, materials preparation and project coordination. For every task, record inputs, an owner, an output and a review point. Relevant institutions must confirm legal, tax, certification or payment matters. Northway's Moscow team can undertake agreed business communication and local coordination, but does not replace the factory's technical confirmation or promise orders from preparatory work.

Decide when the next stage is justified

At the review, check whether the product can be described accurately, target buyers have a documented basis, feedback is specific, and important information or responsibility gaps are visible. Resolve model and supply questions before expanding outreach. If the materials are ready but the buyer type does not fit, reconsider the channel. Fill the preparation sheet with known facts and open questions; a complete business plan is not required to start a discussion. Submit the product, contact method and immediate problem to agree a suitable scope.
